Green Light

Like many women I often look through fashion magazines for inspiration for new styles and trends but never for permission.  I don’t look at the editorial spreads and see limitation rather I see an opportunity for inspiration and creation.  

Don’t let intangible rules and laws about fashion keep you from wearing something that you really love.  Some may think my butt is way too big to clothe it in all white but I’m telling you big girls around the world you have the green light to wear all white or whatever fashion trend you like.

Most mainstream fashion magazines are catered to women size 00-12 and maybe — just maybe there will be a page or two dedicated to the big girl with style.  But my style eye sees more than just a two page spread — I look at the entire magazine as a resource and any look that I fancy –please trust that I will be able to recreate it for my plump curvy body.  That’s also why I love and support magazines like Plus Model Magazine, Skorch Magazine, Dare Magazine, the few that cater to plus size life and style.  They are proving true that fashion forward editorials featuring plus sized bodies can be just as visually stunning as straight sized ones.  It’s also a no brainer that women would relate more to seeing avant garde creations on bodies that look more like their own than a Victoria’s Secret model.  Don’t get me wrong — I’m not hating on VS Models.  They are beautiful and their bodies are amazing but what I don’t appreciate are the constant subliminal messages in magazines that say that my body is less amazing for real fashion?  I know my body isn’t perfect but I still think it looks amazing — especially in this dress!
